The Edge Of Love tells the story of the famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, his wife Caitlin MacNamara, and their married friends, the Killicks. It centres on the reputed love triangle between the poet, his wife, and his childhood friend Vera. The film focuses on an infamous event in 1945 when Thomas was shot at by William Killick. Following an argument in the town's Black Lion pub, Killick was accused of firing a machine gun at Thomas' home in New Quay, but he was cleared when the matter went to court.

• Sharman Macdonald wrote the role of Caitlin with Keira Knightley in mind, but Keira chose to play Vera instead. She said that Sienna's "got that natural exuberance" needed for Caitlin.
